The student asked the teacher, “Professor, do fish think?” “Do fish think?” the Professor repeated the question. “Let me see. There is a fishpond in the back of my house. Every evening for three weeks, I threw fish food in the water near the left bank. The fish came and ate. Then one evening I threw fish food into the pond near the right bank. I noticed the fish were still going to the left bank. For nearly three weeks I threw fish food near the right bank, but the fish were still going to the left bank. Then one evening the fish noticed the food was over at the right bank. They swam across the pond. But they were so starved from not eating, they died right before they came to the food. Do fish think? Yes, but not fast enough.”
If the mind is always a day late and a dollar short, where does that leave us?
A walleye pike is put into an aquarium. He is fed for some days with little minnows. Then, in the middle of the experiment, a glass partition is placed down the middle of the aquarium so that the pike is now confined to one side.
Then the researchers drop the minnows on the other side. Immediately, the pike goes for the minnows, but he hits himself against the glass. He circles and hits it again. He tries a third time, but he is now hitting the glass a little less hard. After a few more times, he’s just sort of nosing up against the glass. He has a feeling he’s not going to get those minnows. Pretty soon, he just swims around in circles and ignores the minnows on the other side.
At that point, those doing the experiment take out the glass. The minnows come right up against the gills of the pike and he doesn’t even try to eat them.
The experiment ends when the walleye pike starves to death. He’s convinced he’s not going to get those minnows, so there is no point in wasting his time or hurting his nose.
You say you’re not going to do it, then you do! You say you’re going to do it, then you don’t!
So, which are you, and who are entering the Kingdom of Heaven?

¡Algo sospechoso está pasando aquí!
El alumno le preguntó al maestro: “Profesor, ¿piensan los peces?” “¿Piensan los peces?” el profesor repitió la pregunta. “Déjame ver. Hay un estanque de peces en la parte trasera de mi casa. Todas las noches, durante tres semanas, arrojé comida para peces al agua cerca de la orilla izquierda. El pez vino y comió. Si la mente siempre se retrasa un día y le falta un dólar, ¿dónde nos deja eso?
Se coloca un lucio lucioperca en un acuario. Se alimenta durante algunos días con pequeños pececillos. Luego, a la mitad del experimento, se coloca una mampara de vidrio en el medio del acuario para que el lucio quede confinado a un lado.
Luego, los investigadores dejan caer los pececillos del otro lado. Inmediatamente, el lucio va a por los pececillos, pero se golpea contra el cristal. Da vueltas y vuelve a golpearlo. Lo intenta por tercera vez, pero ahora está golpeando el cristal con un poco menos de fuerza. Después de unas cuantas veces más, está como si estuviera tocando el cristal. Tiene la sensación de que no va a tener esos pececillos. Muy pronto, simplemente nada en círculos e ignora a los pececillos del otro lado.
En ese momento, los que realizan el experimento sacan el vaso. Los pececillos chocan contra las branquias del lucio y él ni siquiera intenta comérselos.
El experimento termina cuando el lucio lucioperca muere de hambre. Está convencido de que no va a tener esos pececillos, por lo que no tiene sentido perder el tiempo o lastimarse la nariz.
Dices que no lo vas a hacer, ¡entonces lo haces! ¡Dices que lo vas a hacer, pero no lo haces!
