First Holy Communion
Communion, or more properly, the Eucharist, is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation. The Eucharist is the reception of Jesus’ Body and Blood in the consecrated bread and wine. Jesus gave us the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and at every Mass, the Last Supper is made present.
The Eucharist is not merely something—it is Someone. As Catholics, we believe that Jesus is truly present in what appears to be ordinary bread and wine. The Eucharist is Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324). As such, we approach the Eucharist with great care and reverence, including taking adequate time to prepare our hearts before receiving First Holy Communion.
Normally, a child will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist in the spring of their second-grade year. The reception of the Eucharist is preceded by the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation.
To register your child for First Holy Communion, please stop by the Religious Education Office and complete a registration form.
Requirements for First Holy Communion:
- Families must be registered parishioners of Our Lady of the Mountains.
- The child must have received the Sacrament of Baptism.
- A copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate must be provided at the time of registration.
- The child must be in second grade or older.
- The child must be enrolled in and regularly attend Parish Religious Education classes.

Primera Comunión
La Comunión, o más propiamente, la Eucaristía, es uno de los tres Sacramentos de Iniciación. La Eucaristía es la recepción del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesús en el pan y el vino consagrados. Jesús nos dio la Eucaristía en la Última Cena, y en cada Misa se hace presente nuevamente la Última Cena.
La Eucaristía no es simplemente algo, sino Alguien. Como católicos, creemos que Jesús está verdaderamente presente bajo las apariencias del pan y del vino. La Eucaristía es el Cuerpo, la Sangre, el Alma y la Divinidad de Jesús. La Eucaristía es “fuente y culmen de la vida cristiana” (CIC 1324). Por ello, nos acercamos a la Eucaristía con gran cuidado y reverencia, incluyendo dedicar el tiempo adecuado para preparar nuestro corazón antes de recibir la Primera Comunión.
Normalmente, los niños reciben el Sacramento de la Eucaristía en la primavera de su segundo año de grado escolar. La recepción de la Eucaristía es precedida por los Sacramentos del Bautismo y la Reconciliación.
Para inscribir a su hijo para la Primera Comunión, pase por la Oficina de Educación Religiosa y complete el formulario de inscripción.
Requisitos
- La familia debe estar registrada como miembro de la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de las Montañas.
- El niño/la niña debe haber recibido el Sacramento del Bautismo.
- Se debe presentar una copia del certificado de Bautismo del niño/a al momento de la inscripción.
- El niño/la niña debe estar en segundo grado o en un grado superior.
- El niño/la niña debe estar inscrito y asistir regularmente a las clases de Educación Religiosa de la parroquia.
