Dear Fellow Parishioners of Our Lady of the Mountains,
As you may have noticed, for the past few months our Prayers of the Faithful at Mass have included this: “We pray for the success our diocesan Vision 2030 Pastoral Plan, especially in our parish—that we may recognize our Communion for Mission: One Body in Christ, One Paschal Journey.” Some of you may have also read Bishop Steven’s article in the December 2020 issue of the Wyoming Catholic Register entitled “Communion for Mission”. So, what’s this all about?
At the direction of our Bishop, every parish in Wyoming will be formulating a “Pastoral Plan” in the coming months. The diocese has provided priorities and goals for that Pastoral Plan, given the name “Vision 2030”, with the intent of strengthening each parish in its capacity to evangelize. It sharpens the focus on the mission of Christ. And it reminds us that a vibrant faith community constantly examines how well it is living the mission received in Baptism.
Here at Our Lady of the Mountains, we are going even beyond what the diocese has instructed us to do. We are also going to be focusing on two fundamental questions: 1) ‘Who’ and ‘What’ do we want our parish to BE in the year 2030? And, 2) What do we need to start doing now to make that Vision come true?
We will be starting the process within the next few weeks, working with a group of 14 parishioners that has been assembled, including members of the Parish Pastoral Council, Parish Finance Council, Jackson Council of Catholic Women, Knights of Columbus, various other parish ministries, parish staff, and clergy—including Spanish-speaking and English-speaking members.
As this Pastoral Planning Team meets we will continue to provide updates and opportunities to provide input to all parishioners.
For now, we ask for everyone’s prayers, and that we may all, especially, remember the words of St. Pope John Paul II who wrote: “Communion and mission are profoundly connected with each other; . . . communion gives rise to mission, and mission is accomplished in communion.” (Christifideles Laici, 32). If we live our unity as the Body of Christ, then we will model for the world a new way forward.
