Questions?
“Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink.” (“Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.) Questions, questions, everywhere and not a. . . where are the answers? We are reading and pondering the 13th chapter of St. Matthew’s Gospel. It’s a story chapter: about the farmer, the weeds, the mustard seed, the yeast, the hidden treasure, the pearl, the net, and then Jesus explaining the weeds. And then later in the gospel, the story of the workers in the vineyard, the two sons, the renters, the wedding dinner, the ten bridesmaids, the three servants, etc. Some questions might help us to delve further into these stories and let them awaken us to what is going on in our own lives today.
- Which parable bothers you the most? Why?
- What would you have to do to make the parables a reality in your life, with your family, friends and parish?
- Which of the three people who are given talents most resemble you? Why? What have you done with yours?
- In your life, economically, socially, politically, nationally, or in a religious group, with whom are you in collusion?
- Do you try to work both sides of the aisle (politics) or do you commit yourself to a group (church community) that holds you accountable to grow in faithfulness?
- Are you a peacemaker, one who works for the preservation of human life from conception to natural death, prison reform, universal health care, shelter, clean water, food distribution, or the daily needs of those lacking the basic necessities?
I wonder, what kind of stories would Jesus tell today?

Preguntas?
“Agua, agua, en todas partes y ni una gota para beber”. (“Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, de Samuel Taylor Coleridge.) Preguntas, preguntas, en todas partes y no a. . . donde estan las respuestas Estamos leyendo y reflexionando sobre el capítulo 13 del Evangelio de San Mateo. Es un capítulo de historia: sobre el agricultor, las malas hierbas, la semilla de mostaza, la levadura, el tesoro escondido, la perla, la red y luego Jesús explicando las malas hierbas. Y luego en el evangelio, la historia de los trabajadores en la viña, los dos hijos, los inquilinos, la cena de bodas, las diez damas de honor, los tres sirvientes, etc. Algunas preguntas podrían ayudarnos a profundizar en estas historias y dejar que ellos nos despiertan a lo que está sucediendo en nuestras propias vidas hoy.
• ¿Qué parábola te molesta más? ¿Por qué?
• ¿Qué tendrías que hacer para hacer realidad las parábolas en tu vida, con tu familia, amigos y parroquia?
• ¿Cuál de las tres personas a las que se les da talento se parece más a ti? ¿Por qué? ¿Qué has hecho con los tuyos?
• En su vida, económica, social, política, nacional o en un grupo religioso, ¿con quién está en colusión?
• ¿Tratas de trabajar en ambos lados del pasillo (política) o te comprometes con un grupo (comunidad de la iglesia) que te hace responsable de crecer en fidelidad?
• ¿Es usted un pacificador, uno que trabaja para la preservación de la vida humana desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural, la reforma penitenciaria, la atención médica universal, el refugio, el agua limpia, la distribución de alimentos o las necesidades diarias de quienes carecen de las necesidades básicas?
Me pregunto, ¿qué tipo de historias contaría Jesús hoy?
