A little boy and his broom..

Fr. Phil’s Doers of the Word.

John 11:44-45   “..Come out!..  untie him, let him free..!”

A little boy was afraid of the dark.  One night his mother told him to go out to the porch and bring her the broom.  The little boy turned to the mother and said, “Mama, I don’t want to go out there.  It’s dark.  The mother smiled at her son saying, “Don’t be afraid of the dark, Jesus is out there.  He’ll look after you and protect you.”  The little boy looked at his mother and asked, “Are you sure He’s out there?”  “Yes, I’m sure, He is everywhere, and He is always ready to help you when you need him,” she said.  The little boy thought about that for a minute and then went to the back door and opened it a little.  “Jesus, if you’re out there, would you please hand me the broom?”

Here we are, inside our homes, two weeks before Easter, in the midst of a pandemic.  Some might look out the door and ask, “Jesus, are you out there?”  Really?  Would you please hand us a vaccine?!  Others might be saying, “Lord, untie us and set us free.”  Let us go back to our places of work, worship and study.

The good news is that He is out there.  He was for Lazarus; He is for you and for me.   He is also in the many laboratories trying to get a vaccine.  Believe it!
