Musical Notes

The liturgical year is coming to a close, so the liturgy – both read and sung – for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time concentrates on the end of times when the Son of Man will return with real glory and power, having taken away our sin.  We open the service with “The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns” (# 414), and honor God with the Psalm # 1189 “You Are My Inheritance, O Lord.” The preparation hymn “Soon and Very Soon” (#865) captures our joy and hope for a life with our King, living forever in the light.  In the Communion hymn “How Great Thou Art” (#578) we sing of God’s greatness in taking away our sin. The service closes with hymn #985 “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory,” anticipating Jesus coming at the end of time.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God” (Col 3:16 NABRE).
