Do you know any noisy, assertive, pleading, compliant, clever & confrontative women? If you do listen to them. Jesus did in today’s gospel and learned, or rather, was reminded of who he is! The woman in the gospel is desperate on behalf of her daughter. That’s the point! Please don’t miss it!
Mother’s are like that, you know. As one woman commented on today’s gospel, “It’s her daughter, she wants her daughter better, and she’ll do what it takes.”
It’s like the mother who was having difficult with her son and his rebellious and demonic attitudes. She corners him during one of his tirades and says, “I want you to know I am never going to stop. You think you can sulk and avoid me, and I will go away. I am never going away; I want you to know that. And you can never run far enough to get away from me. This stuff is going to change.”
My God, this woman is everywhere! She’s in the laboratories of the world with microscope and flask looking for a vaccine. She’s one of the community organizers urging quiet voices to speak out. She’s in the classroom (or at least eager to get back) to find ways into a closed mind. She’s even in a bank figuring out how to get a loan to a woman on the edge of qualification. She’s also a salesperson dedicated to the customer, etc. She’s everywhere, thank God!
Jesus was reminded by the woman that he is not only for the “lost sheep of Israel”. He is for everyone.
So, you sycophant disciples, step aside, the children and the sick and the foreigners and the outcasts are coming through. How great is your faith?

¡Cuán grande es tu fe!
¿Conoce alguna mujer ruidosa, asertiva, suplicante, dócil, inteligente y confrontativa? Si los escuchas. Jesús lo hizo en el evangelio de hoy y aprendió, o mejor dicho, ¡se le recordó quién es él! La mujer del evangelio está desesperada por su hija. ¡Ese es el punto! ¡No te lo pierdas!
Los de mamá son así, ¿sabes? Como comentó una mujer sobre el evangelio de hoy: “Es su hija, quiere mejor a su hija y hará lo que sea necesario”.
Es como la madre que estaba teniendo dificultades con su hijo y sus actitudes rebeldes y demoníacas. Ella lo acorrala durante una de sus diatribas y dice: “Quiero que sepas que nunca voy a parar. Crees que puedes enfurruñarte y evitarme, y yo me iré. Yo nunca me iré Quiero que sepas que. Y nunca puedes correr lo suficientemente lejos para alejarte de mí. Esto va a cambiar “.
¡Dios mío, esta mujer está en todas partes! Ella está en los laboratorios del mundo con microscopio y frasco buscando una vacuna. Ella es una de las organizadoras de la comunidad que insta a las voces tranquilas a hablar. Está en el aula (o al menos ansiosa por volver) para encontrar formas de entrar en una mente cerrada. Incluso está en un banco averiguando cómo conseguir un préstamo para una mujer al borde de la calificación. También es una vendedora dedicada al cliente, etc. ¡Está en todas partes, gracias a Dios!
La mujer le recordó a Jesús que él no es solo por las “ovejas perdidas de Israel”. El es para todos.
Entonces, discípulos aduladores, apártense, los niños y los enfermos y los extranjeros y los marginados están llegando. ¿Qué tan grande es tu fe?
