Fr. Phil’s Doers of the Word.
John 9:25 – “I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.”
On the 4th Sunday of Lent, as part of your home Eucharistic Moment at the breakfast table, you might listen to Mahalia Jackson’s rendition (1947) of “Amazing Grace” followed by Elvis Presley’s version (1972).
John Newton’s (1725-1807) personal transformation from slave trading to abolitionist influenced the words in the hymn that are inspired by John 9:25. Actor Albert Finney played Newton in the 2006 film “Amazing Grace.” What transformations, alterations or illuminations are taking place in your life during the coronavirus pandemic? William Wilberforce stands on a table and sings Newton’s hymn. You won’t want to miss that scene!
You might add to your table celebration William Blake’s words:
“To see a World in a Grain of Sand, And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand, And Eternity in an hour.” (Auguries of Innocence)
A song, film, and poem might make your Sunday morning breakfast meaningful. A truly “Eucharistic Moment” along with candle, grapes, & bread. Invite Jesus!
You’ll probably wonder afterwards, “Well, our home celebration took longer than the church celebration.” What’s that all about?
