There are eight Sundays in Ordinary Time before Lent commences on March 6th. They are distinct from the special liturgical seasons and focus on our coming together in worship and music to reflect on Christ generally, his role in our daily lives, and our Lord’s grace.
In the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings stress the Lord’s Word and Jesus’s fulfillment of the Law and the prophets. The service opens with hymn #850 “All Are Welcome,” recognizing that the church community forms one body with many members. The Ordinary parts of the Mass can be found in the Misa Santa Fe (copies available on the bookcase in the rear of the church and on the two music stands at the front), starting with the Glory to God. The Psalm is #31 “Lord, You have the Words.” The Preparation hymn celebrates the different gifts we each bring to building up the Church in “Sing a New Church” (#743). The Communion hymn, “We Are Many Parts” (#834), reflects on the gifts that we have been given to share, and we close today’s service with a hymn about serving the Mystical Body of Christ: #807 “We Are Called.”
