Between the special celebrations of Christmas and Lent, our focus is on the Sundays of Ordinary Time. The great liturgical seasons in no way diminish the Sundays of Ordinary Time. They are not ordinary at all, but a time to come together in worship and music to reflect on Christ generally, his role in our daily lives, and our Lord’s grace.
The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time opens with hymn #743 “Sing a New Church,” recognizing the varied gifts we bring to building up the Church community. The Ordinary parts of the Mass can be found in the Misa Santa Fe (copies available on the bookcase in the rear of the church and on the two music stands at the front), starting with the “Glory to God.” The cantor will lead us in today’s Psalm #67 – refrain II – “Proclaim to All the Nations.” The Preparation hymn explores forming a deeper relationship with God in “I Have Loved You” (#588). In the Communion hymn, “Gather In Your Name” (#936), we sing of striving to become what we receive, and we close today’s service with a hymn of praise and thanksgiving, #598 “O God Beyond All Praising.”
