Musical Notes | October 20-21

The 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time presents readings that acknowledge that holiness – “true greatness” is found in serving one another and giving ourselves as Jesus did.  Jesus gave of himself by suffering so that we might be justified (1st reading).  He is our compassionate high priest (2nd reading) in whom we have placed our hope.

Opening the service is “The Church of Christ in Every Age” (# 765), followed by the Psalm asking “Let Your Mercy Be on Us” (# 44). The preparation hymn is “Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service” (no. 764) reflects on following Jesus’s example of suffering.  Number 751, “The Servant Song,” is our Communion hymn, where we pray that we can be servants to others and graciously accept others’ service to us.  We close with “Christ, Be Our Light” (no.  590).
